DAY 3471: FRIDAY 3RD DECEMBER 2010.
I quietly asked the men if they would also be collecting money for innocent civilian women and children who were suffering and dying in these illegal wars of aggression in Iraq and Afghanistan and they politely told me "no".
It is very sad, because the inference is that if the soldiers are 'heroes', then the innocent civilian women and children who are suffering and dying in these wars are being positioned as the 'viilians', which is where they start to lose me, because the innocent civilian women and children are simply not the villians of the piece.
Even worse is the fact that the suffering of women and children is made invisible and that is simply not okay and says a lot about who we are as people.
I then checked out the charity's website and they repeat the government claim that it is all about "protecting national security".
i genuinely think that if a government send soldiers off to war, then everyone, including this charity, should actually be saying to the government, that it is the government who have a duty to and should foot the bill for any and all medical care of soldiers and if they are not willing to do that, then serious questions must be asked.
I find it appalling that innocent civilian women and children who suffer and die are not only invisible, but maligned.
I find it appalling that soldiers this government send off to war, who are injured, should then have to go cap in hand to people, using what is emotional blackmail, while at the same time repeating what are the political lies of this government, who do not even have the common decency to properly care for those they claim as their own.
These are real people's lives we are talking about and we should be caring for all people, instead of allowing anyone to be used by government's for their own ends.
