WASHINGTON PEACE "TALKS"
Day 3378 1st September 2010
A few days after my visit to Gaza, I was standing in a queue outside a Post Office in Ashkelon, when someone came up to me and said I did not have to wait in the queue. When I asked why, I was told that I did not need to wait in the queue because I wasn't an Arab.
I stayed in the queue wth my brothers and sisters. That is where I made my decision to begin to stand for humanity.
"It is not good enough to know that something is wrong. You have to do something about it."
The British government and mainstream media pretend they have developed collective amnesia as to how it was that Israel got a toe hold in the Middle East.
This came about because the British government and the Zionist Federation made an agreement in 1917 called the Balfour Declaration.
For too many years now, decent and civilized people the world over have been dismayed to watch our governments who do not represent our views, co-operate in the ongoing brutal occupation of Palestine.
Generation after generation of Palestinian children and their whole families have suffered.
There can be no confidence in the current round of Peace 'Talks' taking place in Washington, when a Palestinian man can still be imprisoned by the Israeli military just for peacefully campaigning.
Palestinian Activist Mr Abu Rahma.
Washington can of course continue to explore the possibility of a "two state solution". My own suggestion would be, why don't the Israelis occcupy the 'states' of California - and - Texas instead ! Why not ? After all, since Israel gets along so famously with the Americans, surely it would be an all round, win, win situation.
In truth, I believe it is long past the time that we all listened to what the Palestinian people want.
