Donna ‘Black-Cat’ Bugat: Catalan Italian Jews (who were) indigenous Jerusalemites identities changed, echoes Edgardo Mortara case (inquisitions and expulsions) and indigenous Aboriginals in Australia in East meets West (12.07.2019)
... captain cook's cottage...
A return to multicultural Melbourne is East meets West in many inspiring ways.
... multicultural melbourne...
However it also still evokes sad memories of the very real and serious harm caused by ‘Whites Only’ Australia who changed something so fundamental as so many children’s… identities.
The global conversation about free speech is silent about rich people literally changing something so personal and fundamental as the… identity of others, and in particular to exploit children.

I was recently told, I would be able to change my identity back to my real name, which is a big deal to me, for so many reasons. Part of what upsets me so much was the fact the intelligence services deliberately hid my Jewish ancestry from me, simply because of my being Mediterranean too.
... infra... structure...
So, I do not really know and have never experienced what freedom of religion is and could be, because any ‘choice’ was taken away from me, in what was the most serious discrimination.
The former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone did obviously malevolently target me in the UK, as an adult, primarily because of my Jewish ancestry, because he illegally hid emails from 8 March 2007 that caused so much harm, when the legislation we also peacefully and properly opposed could have been repealed so easily, so much earlier.
The fact my identity was completely changed when I was a child was a very cynically cruel and opportunistic continuation of centuries including Inquisitions and expulsions leading to the Holocaust.
The reality a politician in the UK ‘horse-traded’ over my Jewish ancestry is repugnant to me. I guess it was a continuation of the Whitlam era too really, because Whitlam wanted money from Saddam Hussein to fund his re-election, in part of what was presumably the origin of the nuclear controversy involving France and Russia.
The involvement of the highest echelons of the British and Australian ‘Fremantle’ intelligence services changing children’s identities in Australia, during the Franco era, with the knowledge of the Catholic church, echoed the Vatican kidnapping the Jewish child Edgardo Mortara around a hundred years earlier.
... the sisters and the brothers...
The reason identities were forcibly changed over so many centuries is more likely than not, because some Italian Jews who are Mediterranean (rather than European ‘or’ Arab) are historically indigenous Jerusalemites.
So it is interesting to consider what identity is and means because it really is such a personal, yet important issue, and increasingly so in what is a multi-cultural world of increasingly multicultural families, which will naturally become increasingly normal.
The fact families are increasingly multi-cultural also means members of the same family will often identify themselves differently.
In Melbourne, East really does meet West, often in many inspiring ways, among for example Jewish and Aboriginal, Chinese and whatever ‘Australian’ people are now supposed to be.
The proposed inclusion of indigenous Aboriginal people with an as yet unspecified ‘voice’ in the colonial Australian ‘Constitution’ is encouraging and a reminder of all sorts of anomalies in so many ‘Constitutions’ and ‘Treaties’.
.... changing perspectives...
It is interesting when you think about it that there are people who identify as indigenous Mediterranean people, rather than European ‘or’ Arab, and Aboriginal people who (everyone accepts) are indigenous (‘First’) Australians.
.... digital art...
One of the things that is most noticeable in the city of Melbourne in modern Australia is most companies/properties refer to the land historically belonging to Aboriginal people.
Catalans and Italian Jews from for example Genoa have meanwhile always been and remain excluded by the colonial Treaty of Utrecht from having ‘self-determination’ in for example Gibraltar and Catalonia.
There is the obvious anomaly with Catalans supposedly having autonomy but not having citizenship or passports like Australians do, despite both being linked to (colonial) monarchies.

The fact there was no legal reason (I could think of) for me as a Catalan Italian (British Australian) to ‘recognise’ either the French or Spanish ‘Constitutions’ while living in France (who do not ‘recognise’ Catalans in any discernible sense) in the EU, contributes to my belief that autonomy is best. My personal view is all states of any kind should really be autonomous within a universal functioning legal system means I think Catalonia has already ‘arrived’ where other states should follow/catch up.
I do not understand there is any real reason why there cannot be all sorts of autonomous states for people to choose from, and particularly if it is possible to transition to the unlimited potential of clean renewable energy, which should help make everyone healthy and wealthy.
There is a genuine belief the Jewish State really needs a peace deal among “different groups” of Jewish people most of all.
Maybe the Jewish state will one day welcome people who have had their Jewish ancestry hidden because their identities were changed when they were children, because that was not the “fault” of those it has happened to, who continued to be excluded from so much.
It was strange when the Spanish state very belatedly recognised a ‘right of return’ of sorts, which still didn’t really address much, (incl. because of course the Kingdom of Spain was a quite different entity) and while the Jewish State did not recognise a similar right of return to the same Jewish people.
There are real question marks over -any- political state saying the ‘leaders’ can ‘decide’ if someone is (“allowed” to be) one religion or another, and therefore “a citizen” of that state.
