THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF STEVE JAGO & THE "DECLINE" IN PARTICIPATION IN...DEMOCRACY.
I first met our Steve Jago, when he noticed Brian and I having trouble with the police, on Mothers Day March 26th 2006, and filmed our arrest in Parliament Square (Another case we won)!!
BBC: PARLIAMENT SQUARE VIGIL MAN ARRESTED

Steve was subsequently front page news on the far from Independent, when he was first unlawfully arrested, some months later on June 18th 2006, when we were at Downing Street.
(When 78 Metropolitan Police stole the campaign from Parliament Square on May 23rd 2006, we decided the best strategy was to spread the message out, so for part of most days, we campaigned for a number of hours, outside Downing Street also.)
The arrest of Steve Jago on June 18th 2006, was quite an extraordinary arrest for a number of reasons, but one in particular that will become clear.
Steve was extremely violently, unlawfully arrested, incredibly while doing nothing more extraordinary than while we would go to Downing Street, holding a banner with the George Orwell quote, "In a time of Universal Deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act".
Steve single-handedly, nearly caused the whole vicious legislation SOCPA 2005 ss 132-138 being used against us (which was finally repealed in March 2012) to collapse way back in 2006, when he was held by police overnight during which time he refused to give the desperados his details.
The police and courts sweated over that one, until a lawyer persuaded Steve when he was in court cells at the old Bow Street Magistrates Court, that he might actually get sent to prison for refusing to give his details.
Steve was also unlawfully arrested - by police - the following week on June 25th 2006, when he was holding a banner outside Downing Street, asking for witnesses to the violent assault - by police - the previous week !!
The police completely lost the plot on June 25th 2006 and while I was thrown out of police custody on arrival, the police nearly killed Steve in police custody, at Charing Cross Police Station.
The "journalist" Henry Porter reported part of the case for his own reasons, and never followed through with the fact that (while a Judge threw out the June 25th 2006 case) Steve actually received a criminal conviction for ...telling the truth in a time of universal deceit.
GUARDIAN: HENRY PORTER: NOW IT'S SEDITIOUS TO READ MY ARTICLES
GUARDIAN: HENRY PORTER: VANITY FAIR'S ARRESTING LOOK AT BLAIR'S BRITAIN
And Porter wrote to the Commissioner
Dear Sir Ian,
This is a small matter but one which seriously concerns us. On June 18 a man named Steve Jago was arrested in Whitehall under SOCPA. He was carrying a banner which quoted George Orwell. He was later found by the police to be in the possession of several copies of a Vanity Fair article, entitled Blair's Big Brother Britain. As it happens, I am the author of this article but that is not relevant to the issue. The point is that the police told Mr Jago that this was "politically motivated" material, and suggested that it was evidence of his desire to break the law. The word sedition was not used, but clearly that is the light in which the article was regarded by the Metropolitan police.
The reason I write is to ask for your assurance that
anyone carrying one or more copies of the article, or indeed the magazine, within a kilometre of Parliament Square does not risk arrest and charge under the new laws.
The facts of the article have not been contested by the government - we have a very thorough fact-checking procedure in the US - and as far as I know the government has not yet removed the right to publish such criticism or the right for a person to read it and make as many copies as he or she likes.
You will no doubt see the point I am making .
If Mr Jago's prosecution is supported by the fact that he had copies of an article from a legitimate mainstream publication about his person, the freedom of the press is critically affected.
I therefore seek your assurance that possession of Vanity fair within a designated area is not regarded as "politically motivated" and evidence of conscious law breaking.
I look forward to your response.
Editor, United Kingdom.
The freedom of the...press ?
What is really interesting (which also explains why Porter who is ultimately a media toady wasting people's time, by saying that there is a difference between political parties, did not report the case) is what happened in court, when the case finally came to trial, over a year later.
PCCX BURNETT TAKING THE STOLEN BANNERS TO COURT IN 2007.
It was absolutely hilarious when our Steve was on the witness stand and the Judge asked what he was swearing an oath on, to which Jago replied, while holding the book up, "George Orwell 1984". The Judge was furious. It was terribly funny, and years later still provides cause to chuckle.
But that is not what is so important about that case.
It was what Steve Jago then showed the court, that was so important.
Steve showed an extraordinary graph that he had made, which showed a truly dramatic decline in people, voting and therefore the people participating in democracy.
Basically after Tony Blair's landslide victory in 1997, there was a dramatic decline in voter turnout.
Steve quite rightly explained that arresting and prosecuting people for showing the truth - also - had a dramatically chilling effect on people's likelihood and ability to peacefully participate in democracy.
Therefore participation in democracy would decrease even further.
And what happened.
The corrupt Judge gave our Steve Jago a - criminal conviction - and hefty fine, for participating in democracy, proving that the violent U.K Police state DO NOT WANT people actually - peacefully - participating in democracy at all.
The point Steve made was very important.
To arrest, prosecute and hand out criminal convictions to peaceful people, precisely - because - they peacefully participated in democracy, proves - beyond a reasonable doubt, that there is no democracy.
That the state do not want the people to participate in democracy and will punish you if you do.
And many years and unlawful arrests later, Steve Jago was still just as peaceful as ever while being violently assaulted and unlawfully arrested, by the Metropolitan Police, over an ...umbrella !!!! in February 2013
NB: PCCX BURNETT WAS INVOLVED IN TRYING TO DISAPPEAR BABS ON SEPTEMBER 4TH 2006 (HQ12X02745) WHICH IS NOW A CIVIL CLAIM IN THE HIGH COURT.
